Prominent Gujarat Citizens Protest SIT's reported intentions to File Closure Reprt - Zakia Jafri/CJP Case

We received this intimation of a Press Conference from Prominent Citizens and PUCL, Gujarat with a request to send it out to friends in the media.

The matter is of grave miscarriage of public justice hence we request you to give due importance to the same. An anguished appeal to the Chief Justice signed by Prominent Gujarati Citizens is also attached

Reliable sources (as reported in the media) say that despite voluminous evidence, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) appointed by the Supreme Court of India, to investigate the Gujarat Carnage of 2002 is planning to file a closure report. This is a matter of anguish by several from civil society.

In view of this, many eminent citizens of Gujarat recently met, not only to voice their concerns, but also to plan out a future course of action.  It was also decided to write a letter to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of India immediately to express their serious concerns on the matter.

In view of this, a Media Conference will be held today and will be addressed, among others by well-known Gandhian Chunibhai Vaidya and the Director of AWAG, Ilaben Pathak.
