Peace and Human rights Activist and Victim Assaluted in Kandmalas

Issac Digal a leading Human Rights Activist of Kandhamal involved in the ongoing peace building process and restoration of  justice to the affected victims of last Kandhamal violence has been brutally

attacked in his residence last night at 7.30 p.m.(03.09.2009) by some unknown miscreants  just half K.m. away from G.Udayagiri Police Station. As alleged in the complaint submitted to the O.I.C., G.Udayagiri P.S., it reveals  that while Mr. Digal was in his residence along with his wife and only daughter 5 antisocial elements carrying swords and Pistol covering their faces with black cloth entered in to the house, threatened him to kill if he dares to continue to take  leadership in justice restoration process in future and asked to immediately vacate the house. They physically attacked and injured him by sword and also kicked him and gave him blows. They also forcefully took away Rs.5000/- cash, an ATM   card, some important papers and  valuables. As his wife managed to escape from the back door of the house and shouted the neighbors for help, the miscreants fled away.

It  revealed  that he was threatened by some known miscreants at 4.p.m. on the same date in his residence and he had also informed to the District Administration and Superintendent of Police including the Human Rights Commission of Orissa repeatedly regarding the impending danger to his life and about the ongoing attacks on him by the antisocial elements and vested interests.

Well known  Rights and Social Activists  of Kandhamal like  Keshamati Pradhan, Sumabati Pradhan, Brajabandhu Pradhan and Hemant Naik have expressed their grave concern on the growing trend  violence which are  not very often reported due to administrative in action and proper maintenance of law and order situation in the district. Stringent action against the criminals and perpetrators demanded to build up confidence amongst the activists campaigning for peace and justice.

Kindly write to the District Administration for appropriate action and protection for the said activist.
